Assistive Technology Support

Groups runs 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, with one to one appointments, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as needed.

Set up mobiles, tablets and smart speakers to suit each visually impaired persons individual accessibility needs

Knowledge of these technologies would be useful, as would a willingness to learn accessibility reader and zoom software.

Awareness Training Volunteer

Working with our Outreach Team, in delivery of Living with Sight Loss Course and other ad-hoc training courses that Sutton Vision offer.

You would support with set up for the training session, meet and greet attendees and provide refreshments. Basic IT skills will be required to help with the presentation.

Befriending Volunteer

Weekdays

These roles provide befriending to individuals living with sight loss

Telephone befriender: calling one or more people once a week on a regular basis

Walking buddy: Visiting a local park or taking a stroll near the person’s home

Community befriender: Accompanying to a cafe or place the person you’re supporting would like to visit

Driver Volunteer

weekdays and occasional evening

This role is to support Sutton Vision with transportation of its members to attend social events, activities and outings. We are looking for volunteers who have a full clean driving licence and own transport for voluntary use.

Leaflet Distributor Volunteer

As required

We need to get the word out about Sutton Vision in our community and we often do this by distributing posters and leaflets to around the Borough.

This ad hoc role would involve speaking to businesses to ask them to display our posters and/or leaflets so would suit someone who likes to talk to new people and be more active.

Sighted Guide Volunteer

Do you like working with people? We need individuals to support people with navigating when on outings with our charity.

This ad hoc role is to support those who live with severe sight loss or blindness so they can attend our outings and getting around safely.

Social Group and Activities Volunteer

weekdays and occasional evening

To support Sutton Vision run weekly social groups with indoor/outdoor activities for people with a visual impairment including coffee morning, Scrabble, quiz, tech sessions and gardening.

Social Media Volunteer

weekdays

To support Sutton Vision’s social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram & Youtube) with regular scheduled postings. Will require a good knowledge of corporate social media & accessibility features.

Technology Volunteer

As required

Set up laptops, Macs and Chromebooks to be accessible, using features of magnification and/or screen readers and voice control.

Walking Buddy Volunteer

Would you like to be paired with a visually impaired person who needs to regain confidence in getting out and about?

The role would be planning, organising and facilitating safe but stimulating walks in the borough of Sutton, and talking to the individual when planning activities.
